
Bhimtal
Bhimtal, situated at a distance of 22kms from Nainital, is named after one of the Pandav brothers called Bhim. The largest lake in the district of Nainital, Bhim Tal is 1701 metres by 265 metres, 265 metres longer than Naini Lake. The lake known for its magnificent majesty is situated at an altitude of 1371.6 metres above sea level.Bhim Tal has an island, to the north-east side, which is an exquisite gem in the middle of the lake. It is situated within the range of temple bells, which have been chiming for the last 300 years in the 17th century edifice, beneath the shadow of the towering mountain rushing precipitously down to the emerald green lake. The island is only 91.4 metres from the shore.

Getting there
By Road: If you set out early from Delhi, one can reach Bhimtal in 7 hours. Delhi – Kathgodam is 269 kms and Bhimtal is another 22 kms. By Rail: Nearest railway station is Kathgodam (35 kms south). The Ranikhet Express departs from Delhi at 11 pm and arrives in Kathgodam at 6.10 am. It departs from Kathgodam at 10.45 pm and arrives in Delhi at 4.45 am.
Sites to visit
Lake: The emerald green lake is the main attraction. One can take leisurely walks around the lake or hire row or paddle boats for a joy-ride. There are also horses available for rides.Fishing: If you like this sport, carry your own fishing rod and head for the lake which has an abundance of masher and bangra. A permit is required which can be obtained locally from the Irrigation Department.
Naukuchiatal: 4 kms from Bhimtal, this placid lake is ideal for boating and angling.
Ranikhet: This peaceful hillstation offers excellent views of the Himalayas with several good walks.
Nainital: The most pleasant hill station to visit in this area with interesting walks through the forests to points with superb views of the Himalayas.
